National Museum of African American History and Culture

National Museum of African American History and Culture

Working with Museum leadership we created and produced 2 events for the opening of the Museum of African American History and Culture.

The first was a two-hour celebration of music, dance, and comedy — “Taking the Stage:  African American Music and Stories that Changed America."  Staged at the Kennedy Center, and Featuring acclaimed artists including Oprah Winfrey, Usher, Will Smith, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Tom Hanks, Christina Aguilera, and Dave Grohl, among many others, the show included singing, dancing, stories, laughter, and hope… it celebrated America, and all of its citizens, through the prism of the African American experience and its unique contributions to global culture.

The following morning was the historic opening dedication on the steps of the new museum for 50,000 people on the National Mall.  On a stage that architecturally blended into the museum -- to make the museum the star -- we brought together a world class team of creative collaborators, and used the themes of music, family and passing stories from generation to generation to create an event that had gravity, emotion and was uplifting to all who attended.
